Did you know that when high blood pressure was first described we thought it was from “emotional tension”? That’s where the term “hypertension” comes from. We now know that there are a lot of disturbances in the physiology that cause this but “stress” can still cause the BP to go up and often does. In fact a lot of people get misdiagnosed because acute stress (for some just going to the doctor) has caused the BP to rise, sometimes a lot. So there a lot of people who are over treated and in some cases mistreated— they didn’t need to be on meds in the first place. There are, of course, ways to figure this out. This video tells the story of such a patient. Perhaps you will see yourself in this.
